Black and White Inc is a software development and publishing company formed in 1987
in South Africa. The tools in use are Microsoft Access, Microsoft Visual Basic, MS SQL Server, Visual Studio 2010, and DevExpress.
Products include:
- Access Runtime Tester is a utility
that is part of the installation procedure for Miami applications. The install procedure is completely new, using Inno Setup.
- Drive Catalogue program for
keeping tabs of files on CDs and other removable media.
- MouseWheel library to allow
Access users to use their mouse wheel in a helpful way.
- Zippy Backup Assist is a utility that
allows you to repair, compact and zip your Access data files easily.
- Hunter-Killer is a utility that
allows you to delete old unwanted files automatically.
- AccessOpener is a utility that
allows you to open your Access files with the correct program version.
- SMSQ is a freeware software application that allows you to send and receive SMS messages
from an Access database, using a standard GSM modem.
- MyMail.ocx is a utility that
allows you to send emails from within Microsoft Access.
- Copy Mail is a utility that
allows you to send files from the Windows Command Prompt or batch files to an email address.
- PlaySound is a utility that
allows you to play a sound file from the command prompt.
- Miami in use by Black and White Inc and others for database development.
- Data Mover is a utility
that is used to process, convert or synchronise application data. This software is in daily use for
synchronising data between remote Clinics and Head Office for Men's Clinic International.

- uShop.co.za is a cloud solution
for selling products online in South African currency. I did not develop it, but assisted
Bookdealers to set up their book selling web site
online. This included several tweaks to the basic Shopify template to meet the specific needs of a book store.
- Open Access Development System (Oasis)
currently under development, for Access97, and Access XP (2002). The basic technologies of Miami will be
included in Open Access (Oasis). This program will be made available in two forms: Standard and Professional.
The Standard version will include all generated and run-time source code, but not the source code for the support
application(s). The Professional version will include all source code.
- Authentication program for
registering Miami or other software packages. Can accept credit card information and send it in encrypted form,
with 128 bit security.
- Shut Down Windows is a
utility that allows you to terminate applications before doing a shutdown or restart in Windows 98.
- BOFHerrorMsg function to generate random error messages for your amusement, based on the "Bastard DIY Excuse Board".
- Map Studio Sales tracking and
management system, developed using VBeXpress 2000 and Maestro.
- Ad Lib! classified ads system, used by many newspapers in South Africa but no longer in use as it was
based on old technologies such as MS-DOS, Clipper, Turbo Pascal and XyWrite III Plus
- NewsLine editorial system, based on the same technologies as Ad Lib!
